Sioux Falls, SD has this really cool butterfly house. It's a constant temperature (somewhere in the mid-70's iirc) and it is *full* of butterflies. My dad and I have gone together a few times, so here are some pictures from our adventures! There'll be more later.

Elyana is on Dreamwidth now as [personal profile] peculiar_tadpole! Go forth and add her. She's really spiffy and neat. I <3 my sister.

Because I wanted to post more RIGHT NOW:

I really enjoyed doing the butterfly house with my dad. There are benches around so he could sit and just watch the butterflies, and there were waterfalls and stuff for background noise. It was really nice to just be able to sit with him and talk about nothing.

I love my dad. :)

I like taking pictures of books I guess...? The first two are from a history-y sort of book. I like those. They have pretty pictures!

When I think of a griffin, this is what I think of. I think this piece is beautifully done, especially with how the feathers sort of go down the front leg a bit.

Historical c-section!

This is one I did as a scroll blank.

And this is my Award of Arms scroll. There's more to it, which I will post in a few hours, hopefully!

I should maybe go take some new pictures. I'm starting to run out of interesting things in Flickr. >_<

Oh my gosh you guys, I am SO EXCITED for Haiku Power Hour!

I am also excited to sleep at some point in the future.

But not soon.

No, not for another... 10 hours, at LEAST. I've got breakfast plans with [personal profile] hugh_mannity, see...

Kat = not too bright. See also: deciding to do Blogathon about 20 minutes before it started.

There was an exclusive teaser thingy from ComicCon about Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland. I've posted it here for your amusement!

There's also a trailer out, though I'm less excited by it. You can watch it here.

I think The Mad Hatter (Depp) looks *exactly* like Frodo Baggins (Elijah Wood) from Lord of the Rings. It's sort of creepy! I keep wondering what Frodo did to his hair and if it was on a bet from Gandalf.

Anyway!

DW support

Ok, so every night the DeeWee Support Team sends out an email to the site owners and related personnel to give them a heads up on what's been going on that day. Tonight, [personal profile] domtheknight sent it out. There was one thing on it and then the following paragraph:

"Otherwise, things have been pretty quiet around here. Chemla is doing Science and Kat is Blogging and I just turned the heels on my first pair of knitted socks."

Oh, what exciting, glamorous lives we spr0t-types lead.

No really, exciting and glamorous lives.

I swear.

Seriously.

Stop laughing and go Sponsor Jen!

PS: This is how you know I'm tired: I've started babbling about Support. I feel bad for you all!

First, a Random Image:

Y'all ok?

Ok.

So, Support. In case any of you have been living under a ROCK*, I do Support on both Dreamwidth and LiveJournal. I'm a co-head of the team on DW and a wee baby spr0tling on LJ. I am ok with this. I've got a metric ton of backlog stuff that I need to write for Support on DW anyway so I thought I'd post some of it here. :)

Of course, I can't FIND any of it now, so here, have some Broken Wings-verse fic written just for me by the absolutely fabulous [livejournal.com profile] thesilentpoet over here:

"For zarhooie:
When JD first takes his shirt off, all Cam to do is his stare. When he also takes off his pants, it's all he can do to not reach out.

So, when JD reaches for him, guides his hand, Cam is shaking. He can feel JD's hands on his waist, as his belt is unbuckled, and his pants removed. He manages his own shirt. The kiss is a little too desperate, and their hands a little too hurried.

When his knees finally buckle, JD is sliding down with him, an ungraceful heap on the floor, all tangled limbs, but somehow it doesn;t matter. He rests his forehead quietly a moment in the crook of JD's neck, and laughs softly into the skin. Nips at the shoulder.

When JD's lips find his again, the motions are slower, but not any gentler."

Go give her more prompts here and sponsor her here! She's also blogging for St Jude. :)

While you're at it, Sponsor Jen too!

This is the part of the 'Thon where Kat starts talking. A lot. Kat is managing to keep her trap surprisingly well shut, considering the hour. This is damn impressive, yo.

Oh, so I talked to [personal profile] domtheknight before she tucked away to bed and found out what I was supposed to be doing for my Support write up, which turns out to be significantly less interesting than I thought it would possibly be. The thing I'm supposed to be writing which I am not is the Dreamwidth Support Style Guidelines. To be honest, it's not writing so much as it is rewriting. I think it was Rah who did the bones, and I've edited it and added bits and taken bits out. It is supposed to be more of a prodding in the direction we'd like to see you move, but it currently reads more like a strict set of rules To Be Followed.

This is not ok. I'll fix it, but... um. I'm thinking that my plan of doing it tonight is a Bad Plan. No hats anywhere in sight!

Ooooh, the Team Venture Pit Crew Replacement Squad showed up about an hour ago. Emily left about half an hour ago or so. Mark's a pretty cool guy, and he brought eggs! I like eggs. They come from chickens.

Alas, poor Frank.

Had a post written. Chrome ate it all up.

FAIL.

Won't re-write. Brain only has another 50 sentences left. Ow.

Here, go read [staff profile] denise's post on.... something beginning with m that I don't remember. Meritocracy, I think? Anyway, the post is right here. It's a bit wall-o-text-y but totally readable. A lot of it applies to the miracle that Mark and D are trying to work with DW Support too. Maybe I'll spend my sentences explaining what bits are important, or, um, not.

It is 7:30. I have another three entries to post after this one. SO CLOSE.

Here are some bad biologist jokes:

A fellow accidentally ingested some alpha-L-glucose and discovered that he had no ill effects. Apparently he was ambidextrose.

Did you hear about the biologist who had twins? She baptized one and kept the other as a control.

Q: What is the only thing worse than a mecium?
A: A Paramecium

Q: As what did the antibody go to the Halloween costume party?
A: As an "immunogobulin".

More bad biologist jokes here!

And go Sponsor Jen! No, seriously.

"Cake batters are unfinished constructions that need ovens to make them presentable. Even if you are following a cake recipe to the t, there's no insurance it will come out the same way it did last time.

Unless you know why a cake should do what the recipes says it will do.

Cakes rise because of chemical reactions. They rise because there are egg whites somewhere in the recipe. A cake that rises evenly has an even "crumb," and will feel, as well as taste, good in one's mouth. Cakes rise because the batter was a perfect emulsion and did not "break." Cakes hate to be 'overmixed' and they especially detest cold anything-- ovens, ingredients, feet, and hearts."

Read the rest of her post here! It is very informative.

"Trying to Communicate is one of the best crack!fics I've ever read. It's a Torchwood fic, of course, and is the origin of the word Turchwad! Go check it out. <3
